The automated systems of Labiron are found in many different industries. In every company in which compositions of liquids or solids are analysed frequently, automation of this process is possible and Labiron systems can be found in a wide variety of them. Those companies do these kind of analysis as their core business (laboratories), or they do this because their products requires verification (basic metals), or quality checks (tubes, bares, plates, flanges) . Others because the production process requires information about the composition to make the necessary adjustments (foundries, advanced materials, coatings). Semi-finished products may be analyzed in different ways, in the laboratory, at line or directly ONLINE in the production environment. ONLINE analysis is the preferred option if total inspection of all products that will be shipped to a customer is obligatory or when no manual intervention is required. Analytical data is available immediately and may be used to determine the quality of the products at any time.

Finished products

Finished products may be analyzed automatically in several ways. The original method was to take representative samples to the laboratory for testing which then evolved to testing at line to be close to production. However the future is ONLINE analysis as this enables all products to be tested without manual intervention. ONLINE analysis ensures that all samples are prepared and analyzed in the same way every time for consistency of process and guarantees the final product quality.

The semi-automatic mode for XRF analysis would be an automated loader un-loader to increase up time for the spectrometer from the usual 8 hours per day to 24 hour operation.

Analysis of chemicals by ICP or XRF may be fully automated for high productivity. Using automation increases the availability of the analyzer for up to 24 hours working and depending on the application a range of automation tools may be used. Even for very aggressive samples (acids, organics, high temperature, radiation, etc.) elegant technical solutions are available.

Waste water

Semi automated analysis of waste water by ICP is a very common application. Less common, but significantly more efficient is fully automated analysis. Being able to choose between β€˜β€™At LINE β€˜β€™ or the β€˜β€™On LINE’’ application, the systems may be optimized for the applications and for sample throughput in the most cost effective way.

Therefore automation is the only way forward as it improves the quality of the results by reducing possible operator errors, enhances reproducibility and accuracy while freeing up skilled employees for other tasks making the laboratory more efficient and cost effective to operate.

The metallurgical analysis of oil and lubricants is difficult due to the viscosity of the samples plus possible contamination by moisture or particulates.

The oil has to be pre-treated before any analysis is possible and this introduces potential inaccuracies with incorrect reporting of the analytical data.

Therefore automation of this process is highly recommended as it overcomes any sample handling errors and avoids the risk of contamination. Again all the results produced will be readily available for review and any corrective actions taken. Internal QC checks monitor the system stability and will indicate if automatic system cleaning or repeat analysis is required.
